The advance of molecular physics and actual chemistry can't be understood and not using a wisdom of the paintings of Dutch physicist Johannes Diderik van der Waals. His doctoral thesis of 1873 was once the 1st conception of beverages and gases during which the fundamental changes and similarities of those stages have been interpreted by way of the homes of the constituent molecules. This view contradicted the paintings of Mach, Ostwald, Duhem and different "energeticists" and offers the basis for our present knowing of fluids. within the years because the finish of global battle II, there was a re-appraisal of van der Waals's paintings, which has validated his ancient position as one of many founders of molecular technological know-how. this is often the one biography of Johannes van der Waals and may be learn through somebody with an curiosity within the heritage of physics and chemistry, and its most vital innovator.

He was devoted to his country. To him, love of the fatherland was not an abstract notion. It was a deeply felt relationship involving the obligation of all citizens to do their best for the well-being and the future of the country. Planck had-perhaps because of his background-a great respect for law, in life as well as in science. This may account for his conservative attitude, his reluctance to discard laws that seemed so well established, such as those of Newton. Although it took some time, he did eventually overcome his reluctance, and he accepted new and revolutionary concepts when he recognized the soundness of the facts supporting them.

A few figures may be given to illustrate the participation of Jews in the growth of German universities. The expansion was slow until 1870. For example, the number of students in all German universities increased from 6000 in 1796 to about 11,000 in 1850. But after 1870 the increase was rapid. In 1810, when the University of Berlin was founded, there were 252 registered students. In 1906 there were 5°00 students registered for the winter semester and 4000 registered for the summer semester. 16 I.

It was decided to call the successor society the Max Planck Society. Max Planck accepted. It was his last service to the society. He died in 1947 at the age of 89. Einstein was greatly distressed about the trials Planck had to go through during the Nazi period and was deeply affected by the news of his death. At the Max Planck Memorial Service, held in 1948 at the National Academy of Sciences, he recalled that Planck's discovery, his great creative idea, became the basis of all twentieth-century research in physics and had many repercussions.
